Report: America Quickly Slipping Out of the Top 10 Worldwide
It's no secret that the United States education system is falling victim to all manner of regulations and policies that have damaged its abilities to perform and produce well-educated students. However, recent reports from the 2011 Trends in International Maths and Science Study show that the United States is slipping out of, and in some cases has already left, the top ten list of countries performing well in maths and science. Education News: Cheating is an Inevitable Result of the System
Jennifer Browdy de Hernandez of Education news takes a look at the current "banking" system of education and observes its contribution to the drive to cheat. Below is an excerpt from the full article, which you can read at the link below.
My point in relating this personal trajectory is to reflect that if I had only been asked, at each stage of my schooling, to memorize information and spit it back out to a teacher (or worse, a robo-grader) on standardized tests, I don’t know that I would have chosen to undertake the hard work of earning a doctorate and becoming a professor myself.
