IDC Finds Chromebooks Substantially Cheaper than Alternatives

The IDC has published an evaluation of Chromebooks in an educational setting titled "Quantifying the Economic Value of Chromebooks for K-12 Education" has found that Chromebooks are cheaper in every aspect: from the three-year total cost for systems ($1472 for alternative versus $488 for Chromebooks) to the annual IT labour hours required to maintain the machines (2.68 hours versus 0.23 hours).

  1. I think this is a great option for classrooms. As an elementary teacher, I am considering this option. Not only is it cheaper, but brings in many options to my students.

  2. I really like that such a laptop type device has been created. I appreciate its simplicity because it is made to be implemented into the classroom. Many more expensive devices have a number of capabilities that are unneccesary within every classroom when in actuality most classrooms will only need some basic technologies. What is nice about this product is that it creates a extremely cheap option while still incorporating a high quality and functional product.

  3. I like this because no matter what happens to the computer the information and homework is safe. The flexibility of being able to log on to your chromebook from any of the computers would be very helpful as well. Sweet technology.
